Chernobyl Nuclear Report

The Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster is one of the most devastating disasters to have been witnessed by the planet. On 26 April 1986, a nuclear explosion and the fire due to it, brought the neighbourhood to pieces within minutes. It has left an ever-lasting scar on the humankind: one that acts a grim reminder to our callousness that has drastic consequences.

CAUSES OF THE CHERNOBYL ACCIDENT:

It all began on the April morning when there was a nuclear explosion in the Unit 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The explosions that ruptured the powerplant and the consequent fire that lasted 10 days resulted in the emission of a large amount of radiative materials being released into the atmosphere. The specific causes of the explosion are shrouded in a cloud of mystery and though various theories have been proposed, none of them have been accepted as the true one.

The emissions were mainly composed of Caesium and Iodine radionucleides. Radioactive Iodine-131, harmful to the thyroid glands in particular, having a short half-life of just 8 days disintegrated while the remains of the other element Caesium remain even today!

CONSEQUENCES:

Though the effects of this nuclear disaster were far-ranging and affected almost the entire
Europe, the severely affected ones were the rescue-workers who stayed in the area days after the explosion occurred. Exposed to the ionizing alpha, beta and gamma radiations in large doses, most of the rescue workers developed disorders while others became fatally ill.

A huge number of rescue workers also developed the Acute Radiation Syndrome. In some cases, further complications occurred due to the beta penetration leading to skin burns. Several of those in “nuclear-contaminated’ areas became highly vulnerable to skin, lung cancer. Furthermore, the radioactive iodine also contaminated foodstuff and tones of edible items developed radioactive contamination. Those who consumed such foodstuff were also prone to the effects of radiations such as leukaemia, cancer, Acute Radiation syndrome.
It has been estimated that over 600,000 people have died directly or indirectly due to the Chernobyl incident, taking into account the various factors.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Chernobyl nuclear disaster is a costly lesson to the human kind indeed. It reiterates the need for extra caution while dealing with radioactive materials. While nuclear powerplants may be a viable source of power in the years to come, the location and the size of the power plant should be so designed such that the nuclear plant is far away from the residential areas and is not prone to leaks. In addition, a new system to check the leakage of radioactive gases from the power plant should be in place before it becomes operable. Furthermore, instead of dumping the nuclear waste into the oceans, as has been the practice, it is advisable that a new mechanism be developed to safely dispose the radioactive waste, converting it to non-radiative substances if possible.

If such safety measures are taken in addition to caution and care, the chances of another Chernobyl disaster repeating itself are very less. These measures would, thus, make the place a relatively safer one to live in!!!

Sir
Sub: Seeking permission for visiting Training Cell

As part of our recruitment training, we at the Black Pearl take our recruits to a training center to get hands-on experience at the various activities we undertake, before facing such situations on the sea. In this regard, we would like to visit your Training Cell to give the freshmen an idea of their duties on board, preferably on 28 and 29 November 1830.

Black Pearl, with its renowned Captain, Jack Sparrow is one of the most beloved pirate ships to have set sail in this world. She has participated in numerous battles and has emerged victorious in all of them! In addition, bestowed with treasures such as gold and many more, Black Pearl is the richest ship to wander the Caribbean these days. Every season, we at the Black Pearl, hand-pick 50 probable recruits out of which 10 are finally chosen to work with us for that season. It is to help with this final selection that we seek to visit your Training Cell. Ours is the one of the very few ship to thus test its recruits before hiring them as crew.

Last season, the Black pearl received the honour of winning the Pirate Associations’ “Best Pirate Ship” award for two consecutive years. In addition, our ship’s replica has already been kept for viewing in the Pirate Museum – the only ship to have the honour before it stopped sailing the oceans. In fact, Black Pearl is the only ship to have survived the attack of the awe-inspiring kraken.

We would, appreciate it if you would allow our 50 probable recruits to visit your Training cell ,at the Haunted Hunter Isle, on 28 and 29 November. It would be our pleasure to have our recruits trained for those two days in your prestigious institution.
In case , you would prefer our visit on any other day and to provide the terms and conditions regarding our stay there, please inform us as early as possible.

We look forward to visiting your famed institution.

Thank You

Yours sincerely

Recommendation

Recommendations to keep your ship afloat in the sea

1. The ship’s main sail should not be up during a storm to prevent damages to the ship.

2. The steering wheel should be operated only by trained personnel with proper
experience in the field.

3. It is essential that any leaks/ holes in the ship be sealed at the earliest.

4. It is necessary that the broken boards of the ship (with a nail protruding) be repaired so as to prevent injury to crew members.

5. It is recommended that fire crackers be kept well off the board of the ship in case the ship has a stock of gun powder.

6. The ship ought to have adequate defenses in case of a pirate/kraken attack in the middle of the sea.

7. It is suggested that the crew of the ship defer from playing betting games and indulging in brawls in order to prevent intra-crew conflicts.

8. It is highly recommended that the Cannon Controller, the Captain and the lookout be as sober as possible irrespective of the state of the other members of the crew.

Dear Sir,

Sub: Complaint regarding faulty artillery
Ref: Bill no:990099 dated 15 November 1860

We had purchased our main supply of artillery from your company this October. Within a month of purchase, the goods supplied have been found to be faulty. The cannon – Make-it-yourself Cannon set from G&B Company- and barrels of gun powder are damaged beyond repair.

On assembling the parts of the cannon, we found to our utter dismay that not one of the five cannons ordered fire at the target correctly. One of the cannons in fact, literally backfired at our ship causing severe damage to the hull of the ship, almost throwing a few of the crew off the ship. On scrutiny, we found that there were manufacturing defects in the cannons, not to mention a dozen gulls’ eggs in one! The manufacturing date on that cannon showed that it had been manufactured 10 years earlier!!

The gunpowder, on the other hand, was found to be quite effective – in making the crew sneeze continuously. Samples from just 2 of the 10 barrels, functioned properly, the others being totally futile. The wet barrels that arrived to us as part of the delivery – a sign of poor packaging - may have been a cause for this inefficiency.

We would appreciate if your company could replace the cannons and the barrels of gunpowder with efficient ones at the earliest in addition to paying $250 to rectify the damages caused due to the faulty cannons. An alternative would be to refund the money for the cannon, gunpowder purchase besides paying the damages. If we receive no favourable response to this correspondence before two weeks, we will have no other option but to take this matter to the Caribbean Consumer Challenge Center for Pirates to seek justice in the issue.

We hope to hear from you sooner than later.

Yours sincerely
