Bar Chart-Reckless Driving

X- AXIS : AGE GROUP
Y- AXIS: PERCENTAGE OF DRIVERS IN THE CATEGORY

EXPLANATION:

The graph given above depicts the percentage of drives in each category(based on gender & age) who have indulged in road rage in the year 2008 in India. 30% of young women and 37.5% of young men have been involved in cases of rash driving, while just 22% of women and 25% of men in the senior age group have been reported to have done the same. In the middle- age category, 27.5% of women and 30% of men have been caught driving recklessly.

INTERPRETATAION:

The studies conducted to find out the exact percentage of drivers divided into groups with respect to their age, have given some usual and some unusual results. It is hardly surprising that young people in general, have been caught indulging more often in road rage. This, may be the direct result of casual driving and little sense of responsibility that generally characterises their age group. In addition, patient driving is something that these youngsters fail to learn early.
The gap between the percentages of women and men drivers who drive carelessly is the highest in this group- 7.5%. This may indicate that this rash driving is much more a part of the adrenaline drive, which would subside in a few years time.

The studies indicate that, as suspected, the middle-aged men and women drive with much more care than youngsters. The experience they have acquired in driving as well as a mature approach to traffic congestion , might be a cause for the decrease in the percentage of the people in this category who have been involved in rash driving. The difference of men and women with regards to the same is also low- just 2.5% for people of this group.
Surprisingly, the incidents of careless driving have been reported even among the seniors. However the percentage of such cases is comparatively low- 25% in men and 22.5% in women. This, despite the fact that the number of senior citizens who drive on their own is very less.

On the whole, it is quite clear that, as of 2008, women drivers are more responsible than their men counterparts. It is heartening to note that drivers mature and become more careful with age, and a little experience is all the youngsters need for a safe drive on the road.
